Lilian Oyama is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Li-Lu Caring Hands Centre β a registered non-governmental organisation committed to protecting the dignity and enhancing the quality of life of elderly Nigerians. A certified Gerontologist with more than eight years of specialised experience in elder care, social work, and community advocacy, she stands among Nigeria's most dedicated champions for the rights and wellbeing of older adults.
Ms. Oyama holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Rutgers University, New Jersey β one of America's premier research institutions in social welfare β and a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from Seton Hall University, New Jersey. Her academic foundation is further strengthened by a B.Sc. in Banking and Finance from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, equipping her with the institutional and financial leadership competencies essential to building a high-impact organisation.
As a dual citizen of Nigeria and the United States, Ms. Oyama brings an internationally informed, evidence-based perspective to every programme she leads. Her career spans direct clinical service in residential care facilities across New Jersey, elder rights advocacy, programme development, and grassroots community engagement throughout Cross River State. She is particularly skilled in designing culturally responsive interventions for elderly individuals living with social isolation, abuse, developmental disabilities, and complex health conditions.
Ms. Oyama founded Li-Lu Caring Hands Centre in 2023 in loving memory of her mother, Mama Lucy Efu, whose passing ignited a lifelong professional mission: to ensure that every elderly person in Nigeria is seen, valued, and cared for with the grace and compassion they have earned.
